Candleford Mews
The land on which Candleford Mews stands was bought as Brindles Farm in 1996. The name was a problem from the start. The area had farms, cottages and closes all called Brindles, causing persistent confusion for postal and delivery services. A new name was needed.
The answer came from a chance discovery one evening, as the new owners were packing to leave their home called Candleford. Among the boxes was a well-loved copy of Lark Rise to Candleford by Flora Thompson. On an impulse, they reversed the book's journey and named the farm Lark Rise. Over the following two decades they restored it, working the land and rebuilding what had fallen into neglect.
That story of patient renewal is the foundation of Candleford Mews. Each home takes a name from the cast and creators of Thompson's novel, and the development itself brings the journey full circle, from Lark Rise back to Candleford.
