About

The Osborne Collection

James Osborne was born in Wigginton in 1857 and served with the Northamptonshire Regiment. During the First Boer War, he rode through heavy fire to rescue the wounded Private Mayes at Wesselstroom, an act of courage for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. The road on which this collection sits is named Mayes Close in quiet recognition of the life he saved.

After returning home, Osborne worked on the Rothschild Estate and lived the rest of his life in the village. He rests in the churchyard here. The Osborne Collection takes its name and its values from him. The same care and attention to craft that defined his working life is reflected in every detail of these homes.
