The Rise
The name carries more than sentiment. Flaunden originally sat lower down near the River Chess, before the village rose approximately 1.5 miles uphill following repeated flooding in the 18th century. The development's name encodes that distance: R1.5E. Each home takes its name from a figure or landmark woven into that history. The Gilbert honours Sir George Gilbert Scott, the renowned architect whose first commission was Flaunden's St Mary Magdalene church. The Nicholas is named for Nicholas de Flaunden, one of the village's original landholders. The Thomas for his son, who laid the foundations of the community.
