About

Elsie Close

Eight homes, eight names, one design philosophy. The Elsie Collection takes its name from Elsie de Wolfe, widely regarded as the world's first professional interior designer, who in the early 1900s replaced the dark clutter of Victorian interiors with light, air and clean lines. Each house is named after one of her successors, from Cecil Beaton, the fashion and portrait photographer whose passion for design shaped his own homes, to David Collins, the Dublin-born architect who transformed London's restaurant scene for the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing. That same design lineage runs through every home, from the engineered oak flooring and carpet-to-bedroom finish to the marble-mantled bathrooms and bi-fold garden doors.

Location & local area

Bovingdon is a pretty village in Hertfordshire, full of character, with a long history as a farming area. It is approximately four miles south-west of Hemel Hempstead and eight miles from Watford. Bovingdon has a lively high street with a number of local shops, a library and memorial hall and two popular pubs. There are also two churches and a primary school. Leisure facilities include football pitches, a bowling green and a local tennis club. Bovingdon Market is one of the busiest Saturday markets in the country. 400 stalls sell a huge variety of goods – fashion, fresh produce, carpets and rugs, toiletries, computer accessories, fabrics and haberdashery, tools for every job and food to suit all tastes. The village roads are bordered by an appealing mix of fields, gardens and woodland and there is an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways. Fortunately, the village has maintained its rural feel while also benefiting from the proximity to Hemel Hempstead and Watford with their shopping centres and facilities. In addition to the village primary school, there is a good choice of both state and private primary and secondary schools in the catchment area.
